Interesting developments in Kenya where libraries are concerned.
When the government devolved in 2010 the 47 counties were told that they are now responsible for creating, maintaining, stocking and otherwise operating their community libraries. For some county governments this meant building buildings where they could, but not being able to stock them with books. Most did nothing at all as budgets were tight.
Some good news for lover of books everywhere though as the Kenyan government overruled the recent bid to redistributed the Ksh 425 million earmarked for county libraries on the 18th of May. Let’s hope the money start flowing where they are needed.
