See the Change We’re Making

From community projects in the UK and Kenya, to special initiatives that empower and inspire.
Book Packers
Steve with boxes

Every Wednesday and on our Saturday Packing Days, volunteers and beneficiaries work side by side to sort, process, pack, and count donated books, pens and more—turning contributions into ready-to-use learning resources.

Everyone can help

Our arts sessions offer an inclusive, enjoyable way for everyone to contribute to a meaningful cause. Participants experience creativity, connection, and purpose while helping prepare art boxes that bring joy and learning to children in Kenya.

Crafters Crew

Our crafters, from all walks of life, knit, crochet, and sew with purpose—finding joy in knowing that every piece they create will be loved, used, and truly cherished.

Duke of Edinburgh participant

We’ve created a range of activities—from book packing and storytelling to crafting and fundraising—that DofE participants genuinely enjoy. Even better, we love seeing them build skills, grow in confidence, and thrive.

Royston Corporate Volunteers

Whether it’s a solo participant or a group of 30 staff members, we offer meaningful, hands-on team-building activities with real impact. Participants enjoy the experience so much, they keep coming back.

Kwale County Libraries & Learning Centres

Kwale County is where it all began. Here, communities gain access to training, reading materials, and play opportunities that support learning and wellbeing—and we will continue to support them for as long as they need us.

Maasai girls reading

Library Starter is our Small Books Donation Scheme, offering affordable book donations to schools, libraries, orphanages, and community organisations across Kenya. By making books widely accessible, we support learning and help ensure every child has the chance to read.

Boy reading in library

Library Builder is our Large Books Donation Scheme, supporting organisations across Kenya to establish or significantly expand their libraries. By providing large-scale book donations, we help create welcoming, well-stocked spaces where children and communities can read, learn, and grow.

Giving items where they would mean the most

When we have gathered enough items—or receive specialised books—we carefully seek out the most appropriate recipients. This might mean bringing comfort to seriously ill children through toys, or supporting medical students with advanced textbooks.

Our charity’s impact is growing every day. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we receive more books than ever, reaching more people who are eager to engage, participate, and feel that they truly matter and working with diverse groups from across Hertfordshire who are looking to develop skills and strengthen their teams.

To meet the growing demand for our services and to accommodate everyone’s needs, we must expand—our spaces, our resources, and our reach. Our plans for 2026 are ambitious, and we invite you to join us on this exciting journey.

More books give us the extraordinary opportunity to explore new places, connect with new communities, and step into new lives. Building more libraries each year means giving thousands of children—who may never have held a book—the chance to experience the magic of reading, an opportunity no child should be denied.

To answer the call of voices too often unheard, we created the Rural Reading Rooms project. We invite you to be the person who makes this vision a reality
