Our Library Builder
Build Libraries at Scale
Library Builder enables publicly facing organisations across Kenya — including NGOs, government institutions, and community groups — to establish or expand libraries with large-scale, affordable book donations. We work with partners to supply wide-ranging books, including titles that are often difficult to find elsewhere, helping create well-stocked, accessible learning spaces for children and communities. Our approach supports education and literacy at scale, whether you are strengthening an existing library or planning a new one.
Books are sourced specifically to match your organisation’s needs and priorities, with pricing structured by volume — the more books you order, the lower the cost per book. Exact terms and quantities are discussed during an initial conversation, ensuring a transparent and collaborative process. Even if you are only at the idea stage of starting a library, we encourage you to get in touch to explore how Library Builder can support your vision.
Library Builder FAQ
Who can start a Library Builder partnership?
Public-facing organisations such as NGOs, government bodies, schools, and community groups can initiate a Library Builder partnership. If your organisation is committed to creating or expanding a library, we’d love to hear from you.
How do I start the conversation?
Simply get in touch with us via email or contact form. We’ll discuss your organisation’s library needs, scale, and vision to explore how Library Builder can support you.
What is involved in the agreement?
We’ll draft a clear, collaborative agreement outlining the number of books, timelines, and responsibilities. Exact terms, including cost per book, are agreed during this initial stage.
What are the approximate costs?
The cost per book in the Library Builder scheme depends on the size of your order. For 1,000–5,000 books, the charge is 45 KSh per book, while for larger orders of 6,000–30,000 books — the maximum we can fit in a single shipping container — the charge is 35 KSh per book. These funds help cover shipping costs to Kenya. The books themselves are provided as a donation, free of charge. Your organisation will also need to arrange and pay for in-Kenya transport to receive the books at your chosen location.
By partnering with Library Builder, your organisation can access large-scale book donations to expand or establish a library, providing children and communities across Kenya with valuable learning resources.
Who covers the shipping and clearing charges?
JBAC handles and pays for all the necessary paperwork, taxes, charges, and fees for the shipment of your books. We also cover 90% of the total costs involved in sourcing, shipping, and clearing the books to Kenya. Your organisation benefits from this support, making it easier to access large-scale book donations to expand or establish a library and provide valuable learning resources for children and communities.
How long does the process take?
Timelines vary depending on your location and the number of books requested. Once the agreement is signed, we’ll keep you informed every step of the way to ensure smooth delivery.
Can I start planning even if my library is not ready yet?
Yes. Library Builder is flexible — we can start discussions and plan your library before it is fully established, ensuring the books you receive match your long-term needs.
What type of books can I expect?
With Library Builder, we curate books to your organisation’s specifications, or as closely as possible to your needs. You will receive the categories and quantities of books agreed upon with us. The available categories include: children’s storybooks for beginner, intermediate, and advanced readers; adult storybooks; knowledge books for children and adults; and UK curriculum textbooks. Every selection is carefully chosen to support reading, learning, and educationin your library, helping children and communities across Kenya access valuable learning resources.
