Opening Doors to Learning in Every Corner of Rural Kenya
Bringing Books and Learning to Where They’re Needed Most
Since 2013, our Library & Learning Centres have transformed how rural communities in Kenya engage with learning. What started in Kwale County as a small experiment has become a proven model for empowering communities through literacy and creativity.
Books are not just paper—they are windows to imagination, skills, and opportunity. For many children and adults in rural Kenya, a book can be life-changing. Our goal is to extend that opportunity to every village that needs it.
Lives Transformed, Communities Thriving
Through our existing centres, we have:
- Reached over 120,000 children and adults with access to books and learning programs
- Trained 198 teachers and community volunteers to support literacy programs
- Created safe spaces for learning, creativity, and mentorship
“Before the library, we had no books. Now, children are reading daily and dreams are growing bigger.” Mr Tsuma Hamisi, Head Teacher
Communities Grow Through Literacy
Expanding Beyond Kwale: Libraries for All Rural Communities
Rural Kenya faces a critical challenge: books and educational resources are scarce, yet the desire to learn is immense. To meet this need, we are expanding our Library & Learning Centres to new communities.
Partnership Spotlight:
We are proud to work with the University of Nairobi, leveraging research and community insights to select locations and design programs that truly meet the needs of each community. Together, we ensure our libraries are impactful, sustainable, and loved.
"We are excited to join forces with JBAC on this transformative project." Dr Kathleen Anangwe, University of Nairobi
Where Should the Next Library Go?
We want your help in identifying communities that could benefit from a Library & Learning Centre. Soon, we will be opening calls for nominations, giving local leaders, teachers, and residents the chance to suggest villages that need access to books and learning resources.
Keep an eye out for our competition or calls to nominate your home community—your input could help bring knowledge, opportunity, and hope where it is needed most.
Bring Knowledge Home
Help Us Bring Libraries to Rural Communities
Every Library & Learning Centre costs 4.5 million KSh to bring to life. Your support helps us:
- Ship books from the UK to Kenyan communities
- Convert shipping containers into fully equipped libraries
- Train local volunteers to run the library and literacy programs
- Handover the library to ensure it thrives for years to come
We are looking for partners, promoters, storytellers, and champions of literacy—anyone who can help us make this vision a reality.
Your support can transform lives. By contributing, you help bring knowledge, creativity, and opportunity to communities that need it most.
